UI Kit Project

A User Interface Kit is a library of graphic files that contains a range of UI elements created for the purpose of user interface design.

Project Overview

The UI kit project was an exploration in the process of icon and element creation for web and mobile use, while understanding the needs and constraints in creating an effective UI Kit. A set of 25 icons, along with a range of functional elements were created and combined with a color palatte and typeface to create the UI kit below.

This UI kit project was part of the user interface and interaction design class at San Jose State University with supervision from Professor Nelson Tan. This project was a prelude to the Wikipedia Redesign project, where the UI kit created here was used in its creation.

Process

The UI kit project began with thumbnail sketches of icons for different UI functions. Those that best communicated were carefully drawn using a grid to ensure visual consistency and visability at small sizes. Grid icons scanned and rendered digitally to vector format to create the completed UI kit. Tools used - Paper + Pencil, Adobe Illustrator
